Applications of Silicon

June 25th, 2010

Silicon is the principal component of glass, cement, ceramics, most semiconductor devices, and silicones, the latter a plastic substance often confused with silicon. Silicon is also an important constituent of some steels and a major ingredient in bricks. It is a refractory material used in making enamels and pottery.

Elemental raw silicon and its intermetallic compounds are used as alloy integrals to provide more resistance to the aluminium, magnesium, copper and other metals. Metallurgic silicon with 98-99% purity is used as raw material in the manufacture of organosilicic and silicon resins, seals and oils. Silicon chips are used in integrated circuits. Photovoltaic cells for direct conversion of solar energy use thin cut slices of simple silicon crystals of electronic grade. Silicon dioxide is used as raw material to produce elemental silicon and silicon carbide. Big silicon crystals are used for piezoelectric glasses. Melted quartz sands are transformed in silicon glasses which are used in laboratories and chemical plants, as well as in electric insulators. A colloidal dispersion of silicon in water is used as a coating agent and as ingredient for certain enamels.

It is known that silicon forms compounds with 64 out of the 96 stable elements and possibly form silicides with other 18 elements. Appart from metallic silicides, which are used in big quantities in metallurgy, it forms important commonly used compounds with hydrogen, carbon, halogens, nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur. Moreover, many useful organosilicic by-products.

The market of Tungsten performances in recent days

June 4th, 2010

The market of Tungsten performances stable during this week
According to the newest data, this week the price of tungsten keeps smooth, the amount of business is poor. The purchase desire needs a little promotion, maybe when the price is up.
One of the manager from Jiangxi Province said that they exploit tungsten 40-50tons per month, these products are directly to their own production line, refuse to provide for others. they all keep the product on hand to wait for the price up. “Now, it is not the right opportunity.”
General speaking, we can get that there is room for business, what affects the market is the price, this is the most important factor that is related to bargain. We have to wait the right time.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE ABOUT TUNGSTEN

May 27th, 2010

Some of our customers often ask me the same question that is tungsten bar as much same as tungsten gold, and it can sells in a very high price, more than 10,000/kg, actually they are wrong, tungsten is only tungsten, it is different with gold. Tungsten has it own special use.

Tungsten, also known as wolfram, is a chemical element with the chemical symbol W and atomic number 74. A steel-gray metal under standard conditions when uncombined, tungsten is found naturally on Earth only combined in chemical compounds. Its important ores include wolframite and scheelite.

The free element is remarkable for its robust physical properties, especially the fact that it has the highest melting point of all the non-alloyed metals and the second highest of all the elements after carbon. Also remarkable is its very high density of 19.3 times that of water. This density is slightly more than that of uranium and 71% more than that of lead. Tungsten with minor amounts of impurities is often brittle and hard, making it difficult to work. However, very pure tungsten is more ductile, and can be cut with a hacksaw.

The unalloyed elemental form is used mainly in electrical applications.Tungsten’s many alloys have numerous applications, most notably in incandescent light bulb filaments, X-ray tubes (as both the filament and target), and superalloys. Tungsten’s hardness and high density give it military applications in penetrating projectiles.

Tungsten compounds are most often used industrially as catalysts.Tungsten is the only metal from the third transition series that is known to occur in biomolecules, and is the heaviest element known to be used by living organisms

Basic knowledge about Molybdenum

May 18th, 2010

Molybdenum is a Group 6 chemical element with the symbol Mo and atomic number 42. The name is from Neo-Latin Molybdaenum, from Ancient Greek Μόλυβδος molybdos, meaning lead, since its ores were confused with lead ores. The free element, which is a silvery metal, has the sixth-highest melting point of any element. It readily forms hard, stable carbides, and for this reason it is often used in high-strength steel alloys. Molybdenum does not occur as the free metal in nature, but rather in various oxidation states in minerals. Industrially, molybdenum compounds are used in high pressure and high temperature applications, as pigments and catalysts.

Molybdenum minerals have long been known, but the element was “discovered” (in the sense of differentiating it as a new entity from minerals salts of other metals) in 1778 by Carl Wilhelm Scheele. The metal was first isolated in 1781 by Peter Jacob Hjelm.

Most molybdenum compounds have low solubility in water, but the molybdate ion MoO42− is soluble and will form if molybdenum-containing minerals are in contact with oxygen and water. Recent theories suggest that the release of oxygen by early life was important in removing molybdenum from minerals into a soluble form in the early oceans, where it was used as a catalyst by single-celled organisms. This sequence may have been important in the history of life, because molybdenum-containing enzymes then became the most important catalysts used by some bacteria to break into atoms the atmospheric molecular nitrogen, allowing biological nitrogen fixation. This, in turn allowed biologically driven nitrogen-fertilization of the oceans, and thus the development of more complex organisms.

At least 50 molybdenum-containing enzymes are now known in bacteria and animals, though only the bacterial and cyanobacterial enzymes are involved in nitrogen fixation. Due to the diverse functions of the remainder of the enzymes, molybdenum is a required element for life in higher organisms (eukaryotes), though not in all bacteria.

Indium price

May 14th, 2010

In America the price of  Indium goes up slightly in recent days

According to the newest information, the price of Indium is still up slightly reported from American market. This brings more chance for both buyers and sellers, it stimulates the desire on purchase.

“In these days some end users have strongly demand on Indium.” said by may distributors, this will support the price up. With the increase of needs, it will add the cost to stock the product, in this case the price of Indium will keep the up trend continuously in short time. We  also agree with this analysis.

In this week, we also pay attention to the action of our potential customers, we  hope that on the effect of up price we can own some deals successfully, so that promote the development of our metal business.

Have we break away from the economic crisis already

May 5th, 2010

The latest data from CIQ shows that the export volume of silicon metal is 53,358.72 Tons on march 2010,annulus comparing increases 70.85%, on the occasion of the same proportion, it grows up with the percentage of 188.93%, the export amount is 11366.6637 US DOLLARS, however the profit is very low. the export volume of ferro molybdenum is only 13.85 tons in march.Still very bleak, while the data in February is non.  the main export destination is south korea and north korea.

According to the local market information in europe 2010-5-4 said that ferro tungsten demand in Europe has improved in the last week,Prices pulled back slightly.

The customs data on the amount of these trade shows that the situation in general is not too optimistic,Taking account of the factors of  RMB revaluation, I think that the foreign trade situation is still austere at present. Colleagues to do foreign trade should hold on. come on baby!!

HOT NEWS I saw on the paper

April 28th, 2010

The development and Reform Commission published (22) the first quarter of the main operation of high energy consuming industry report 2010 yesterday, the data saysA quarter of major energy-intensive products have increased more than 20%,

Aspects of the steel industry, the first quarter of the national output of crude steel is 158.01 million tons, An increase of 24.5% than usual, steel Production is 185.75 million tons, increase 28.6%,about non-ferrous metal area, the output of non-ferrous metal in our nation is 7.43 million tons in one quarter, increase 36%,Aspects of building materials industry, the output of cement in our nation is 335.85 million tons in one quarter,on the occasion of the same proportion, it grows up with the percentage of 20.3,in chemical industry it grows up with the percentage of 23.1,China has promised that this target will decline 40% before.

But the unit GDP energy consumption keep on growing in one quarter, which makes the target that let the consumption of unit GDP energy decline becomes difficult to achieve ,China’s high energy consumption industries shows the momentum expansion again, transform the development of economic face a serious challenges,we should actively promote the structure transformation at present.

Tungsten as a Gold Substitute

April 15th, 2010

In early 2008 it was reported that at least some of the gold bars in the vaults at the National Bank of Ethiopia were fake. The discovery was made when bars shipped from Ethiopia to South Africa were returned after they were identified as being gilded steel.

Gilded steel is a very unconvincing form of fake gold because the density of the iron alloy is significantly less. A steel bar identical in volume to the standard 400 troy ounce gold bars commonly used in bank-to-bank trades would weigh only 162.5 troy ounces (about sixty percent lighter). Anyone familiar with handling gold bars would easily identify them as counterfeit.

Even lead, a common heavy metal, is a poor substitute as it is only 59% the density of gold. One of the things that historically made gold so attractive to be used as money was its unmistakable density.

Nowadays we know of several metals that have similar densities to gold, such as the heavier platinum-group metals. However, using these metals to produce fake gold is unprofitable due to their high cost.

There are two metals that are suitable, from both a density and economic perspective, for manufacturing fake gold – uranium and tungsten.

These metals aren’t without their give-aways either. Different chemical and electro-magnetic properties exist. Uranium is of course radioactive. Tungsten is extremely brittle – the exact opposite of gold. Additionally, tungsten has the highest known melting point of any non-alloyed metal at 3422 degrees Celsius, making it difficult to work with. However, it appears that at least one high-temperature furnace is producing gilded tungsten products.

A Chinese company  is advertising imitation gold merchandise on its website. The following quote is taken directly from their Tungsten Alloy for Gold Substitution page:

“a coin with a tungsten center and gold all around it could not be detected as counterfeit by density measurement alone … We are well accustomed to exploit more innovative applications of tungsten products. Gold-plated tungsten is one of our main products.”

This raises a few (somewhat rhetorical) questions. What kind of customer is this company looking to sell its imitation gold products to and for what purposes are they intended? Furthermore, what exactly are the “more innovative applications of tungsten products” that this company is hinting at?

NEW YEAR GREETING

February 7th, 2010

Six days later is the most important day in china “spring festival”, happying, remember that when I am young , “spring festival” is our favorite day, on that day we children can play games, pay a New Year call to neighbors and relatives.but i like most is that the older give us money as a lunar New Year gift.
How time flies, I was not a child any longer, play games with little friend is not possible,we are all grow older and we all have our own business to deal with,we can not receive the elder’s money as our new year lunar New Year gift , but i still like the “spring festival”, I like this environment, I can get togerther with my family and my relatives such as my grandfather, grandmother, I offen miss them when I don’t see them.
work in the city by yourself some times will feel lonely, at that time you can feel the worm of the family, it is very gentle and fragrant. “spring festival” in china is just like the “christmas day” in the west.
In “sprig festival” we all need to greet relatives neighbor and friends, the greeting world such as “gong xi fa cai”, “gong he xin xi”, “wan shi ru yi,sheng ti jian kang”,”xin nian xing da yun” and etc.
So dear friend, send you we chinese sincerely greeting”gong xi fa cai, hu nian xing da yun”

Business and environment protection

January 18th, 2010

According to the analysis of authoritative industry experts,The global supply of tungsten mainly consists of two parts,Part of the new supply of tungsten are concentrate production,This part of the total supply of tungsten accounted for 76%,Another part of the final tungsten product from the waste material, accounted for 24%,According to nationwide survey of Tungsten Industry by China Tungsten Industry Association in 2004,our country’s utilization of waste tungsten is very low,Only 10% of tungsten supply,in the advanced countries, utilization of waste tungsten are generally above 30%,generally speaking,The cost of recycling waste tungsten are lower than the tungsten ore smelting processing costs,But requires greater investment and stronger environmental protection technical support.

In china the develop of economy is the first,Although many intellectuals have loudly called for protection of the environment, but in China,Every day a large number of industrial wastes, wastewater is discharged out of,Serious pollute our environment for survival,This is why China’s low rate of utilization of waste recycling tungsten,How can the economic development and environmental protection be better coordinated,Now it still seems a very difficult problem,Because up to now still not a very good program proposed.

Sincerely wish that,in the near further, the develop of china economic keep on growing, meanwhile the environment will be better,we can see the blue sky and white cloud, we can hear the birdies singing in the sky.

I wish that 2012 is only a film, never come ture!
